Support European Antibiotic Awareness Day – 18 November 2014

BSAC is calling on its Membership and allied health professionals to support European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD).  To be held on Tuesday 18th November 2014 EAAD provides the infection community with an outstanding opportunity to promote the appropriate prescribing and use of antibiotics, and reduce inappropriate prescribing and inappropriate use.

In addition EAAD aims to improve public and professional awareness of the need to use antibiotics responsibly to help control the increase in antibiotic resistance. As professionals are aware, antibiotic resistance is driven by the over-use of antibiotics and inappropriate prescribing. The number of infections due to antibiotic-resistant bacteria is growing, but there is a lack of new antibiotics. Educating the public and clinicians in the responsible use of antibiotics is of paramount importance to help control resistance, as are initiatives such as Antibiotic Action in driving forward the need for new antibiotic discovery and development.

Please help spread the work by sharing BSAC’s publications and resources – all of which can be accessed here:
