Grant awarding strategy
To improve the prevention and treatment of infectious disease, and to and promote the appropriate and effective use of antimicrobial agents through the award of research, travel and other grants to institutions and individuals.
In furtherance of the above strategy the Society supports grants in the areas of:
- Mechanisms of antibacterial action
- Mechanisms of antibacterial resistance
- Antiviral resistance
- Antivirals
- Antifungals
- Antibiotic methods
- Antibiotic prescribing
- Antibiotic therapy
- Antiparisitics
- Evidence based medicine / systematic reviews
The Society also offers vacation scholarships, overseas scholarships, travel grants and named awards; details can be found under this section of the website. Unless otherwise stated grants are open to Members and Non Members worldwide.
Designated grant fund
Council agrees each year on the allocation of funds that will support the next years grant round. The amount allocated to the grant fund each year depends on the projected surplus from Society's income for the previous year. Allocated funding is held in a designated fund. If available, unspent funds can be carried forward to the next financial year (1 January – 31 December of each year).

- Travel Grants (ECCMID & ICCAC)
The Society is happy to receive proposals from trainees for funding. Individuals wishing to apply for funding for training should do so use the project grant application procedure. Funding for training is limited to applications up to £5,000.
Only one application per research team / department.
