About ESAC

ESAC logoESAC or European Surveillance of Antimicrobial Consumption is a European project coordinated by the University of Antwerp, Antwerp, Belgium.

There are 34 countries participating in ESAC including all 27 EU (European Union) member states. Each country has its own national network of experts. They collect data on the use of drugs to treat infections caused by bacteria (antibiotics), viruses (antivirals) and fungi (antimycotics) and send the data to the University of Antwerp. ESAC is funded by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) which is located in Stockholm, Sweden.
