In the UK, we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of patients infected with ESBL-producing E.coli and Klebsiella, AmpC-producing Enterobackers and multi-resistant Acinetobacter and P.aeruginosa. Therapeutic choice is often limited, and effective treatments are at a premium.
