BSAC Spring Meeting 2005 - Modern urban myths and legends in chemotherapy
10 March
Royal Colleges of Physicians, London

The advent of evidence-based medicine, both in edict and practice, requires health professionals to continually examine current diagnostic criteria and treatment strategies for identifying and treating infectious disease. This is a particularly onerous task in the field of infection management and antimicrobial chemotherapy where the goal posts are ever moving and effective therapies are places under continual threat from resistant bacteria.

How do we access whether what we do is part of proven scientific fact, or part of urban myth and legend? Are our diagnostic approaches and judgements about treatment grounded in evidence or born of experience and judgement?
